Since early morning, dozens of ethnic Serbs have gathered in the courtyard of the Gracanica Monastery to attend a liturgy in honor of Vidovdan – a significant date in Serbian national and religious tradition.
In response, the Kosovo Police have intensified their presence in Gračanica, taking heightened security measures to manage the situation and prevent any incidents or provocations. Special Police Units have been spotted at the entrances of the town, while traffic has been rerouted around the monastery area.
The road passing through the center of Gracanica has been closed to vehicle traffic, with police issuing advance warnings of traffic disruptions.
“In regard to the temporary roadblocks or possible traffic redirections, the Kosovo Police request full understanding from the citizens and all road users,” read the official police statement.
According to local Serbian-language media outlet Radio Kim, in addition to increased police presence, KFOR personnel have also been deployed at key points throughout the area, positioned in several vehicles around Gračanica.
Police also arrested V.P., the organizer of a pilgrimage group from Belgrade. The group wore red, blue, and white T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “United Serbia,” and gathered in front of the monastery.
V.P. was detained upon identification in the presence of KFOR troops and the Police Inspectorate, Radio Kim reports.
