As summer temperatures continue to rise across Europe, numerous wildfires and extreme heatwaves have erupted in various parts of the continent.
In Turkey, a severe heatwave pushed temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, creating hazardous conditions. Fires broke out in several cities including Izmir, Bursa, Tekirdag, Sakarya, and Adana, prompting emergency responses.
Firefighting teams on the ground and in the air were deployed to combat the flames. Efforts faced a tragic setback in Adana when a firefighting plane crashed while attempting to collect water from a nearby dam. Rescue operations are currently underway.
Meanwhile, in Greece, many Athenians rushed to beaches as the country faced its first major heatwave of the year.
Temperatures are expected to intensify until Friday, peaking around 40-41 degrees Celsius inland. The heatwave is predicted to persist through the weekend before temperatures begin to drop.
