US President Donald Trump experienced a dramatic week, beginning with a public emotional outburst and concluding with four significant victories in foreign and domestic policy.
The week started with an on-air rant, as Trump displayed nervousness regarding ongoing tensions with Iran and the uncertainty surrounding a ceasefire with Israel. However, just a few days later, he was seen smiling at the White House, celebrating victories on four fronts:
Attack on Iran and Ceasefire with Israel
Following an “incredible” attack on Iranian nuclear facilities on June 21, Trump announced a complete ceasefire in the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran. Despite initial tensions and immediate violations of the agreement, Trump claimed he had with difficulty convinced Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the attacks, describing himself as a “peacemaker.”
NATO Support and the “Daddy” Nickname
At the NATO summit in the Netherlands, the US president was lauded for the attacks on Iran and secured a commitment from allies to increase defense spending to 5%. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte even jokingly called him “Daddy” – a nickname Trump proudly embraced, posting triumphant videos with the caption: “Daddy’s home.”
Victory at the Supreme Court
The Supreme Court approved a ruling that limits judges’ power to block presidential orders. Trump hailed this as a “monumental victory for the Constitution,” which will enable him to more freely implement policies on immigration, sanctuary cities, refugees, and gender-affirming procedures.
Peace Agreement in Africa
On Friday, Trump mediated a peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Although details are scarce and the region has a long history of failed agreements, Trump described this as a “generational victory” – and emphasized that the agreement secures US rights to important minerals.
