More than 50 civil society organizations in Kosovo have expressed deep concern over the ongoing stalemate in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, labeling the prolonged failure to constitute the legislature as a threat to democratic order and institutional functionality.
In a joint statement, the organizations emphasized that the Assembly, as the highest representative body, must not remain hostage to the will of a single political party. They strongly criticized procedural deviations by acting speaker Avni Dehari and attempts to impose a unilateral process through secret voting, which they argue violates the Constitutional Court ruling of June 26.
Civil society groups have called for political compromise and a swift restoration of parliamentary functionality, urging all parties to assume their democratic responsibilities to enable the adoption of laws and appointment of new institutions.
“Democracy cannot function without functional institutions. The current blockade is unacceptable and directly harms the interests of the citizens,” the statement reads.
