After more than 24 hours of continuous debate, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the comprehensive fiscal and budget reform known as the “big beautiful law,” as it was dubbed by U.S. President Donald Trump, reports Rks News.

The law passed with 218 votes in favor and 214 against, following a lengthy process marked by intense political tensions and marathon speeches.

The intervention of Republican Majority Leader Mike Johnson was decisive. He kept the procedural vote open for seven hours, successfully persuading some of his Republican colleagues to move past the debate phase.

During the debates, Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries delivered a lengthy speech as part of the so-called “magic minute,” discussing the reform’s impact on social program beneficiaries and expressing the opposition’s concerns.

After the speeches concluded, the final vote was held, the bill was approved, and now it awaits President Trump’s signature to come into effect within the next two days.
