Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti met with Lord Wood of Anfield, the United Kingdom’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Europe at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, in Sveti Stefan, Montenegro, to discuss relations between Kosovo and the United Kingdom.

In a social media post, Kurti described dialogue with London as close and ongoing, highlighting Britain’s role in supporting Kosovo at various stages of its development.

Kurti said the meeting followed two conversations over the past two months with Dame Karen Pierce, the UK’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans. One took place in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, while the other was held by telephone from Prishtina. During the latter conversation, Pierce also conveyed congratulations from British Prime Minister Burnham on the election of Kosovo’s president.

Kurti described the United Kingdom as a key friend and ally of Kosovo, saying it had supported the country from liberation and independence through the development of its democratic institutions. He added that Britain remains one of Kosovo’s supporters in its pursuit of Euro-Atlantic integration.

With its institutions fully operational, Kurti said, Kosovo is focused on reforms and development.

He also highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation with the UK across a range of sectors, from defence to preparations for the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games.
