The U.S. administration has deployed 200 Marines to Florida as part of logistical and administrative support for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency in efforts to control irregular immigration in the country, reports Rks News.
According to a statement from the U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM), this is the first phase of reinforcements aimed at assisting ICE with activities not directly related to law enforcement, explicitly excluding troop involvement in operational actions or direct contact with detainees.
The Marines will operate solely in support roles and are prohibited from intervening in detention procedures or having contact with detained immigrants.
