A wildfire burning near the Grand Canyon in the United States has expanded tenfold in the past 24 hours, according to NBC News.
Dubbed the “White Sage Fire” by officials, the blaze near Jacob Lake, Arizona, approximately 1,050 kilometers southwest of Denver, Colorado, has grown from 400 hectares to nearly 4,450 hectares. This dramatic increase was reported on a government website monitoring U.S. wildfires.
The fire, which was ignited by lightning strikes on Thursday, remains zero percent contained. Authorities have consequently evacuated the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, as announced by the National Park Service. Yesterday, officials stated on platform X that around 500 visitors were evacuated from the area, while park employees remained in secure locations.
Additionally, residents from the northern and southern edges of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado have also been evacuated due to the fire, and that park is currently closed to visitors.
