Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Friday that Russia has adapted and developed a certain immunity to the European Union’s sanctions following the approval of the 18th package of sanctions against Moscow, which includes new measures targeting the country’s oil industry.

Peskov described the EU sanctions as “unilateral and illegal,” emphasizing that they reflect Europe’s “consistent anti-Russian stance.” He stressed that Russia will carefully analyze the new measures to minimize their negative impact.

“We have already developed a certain immunity to sanctions and adapted to life under them,” Peskov told international media. He added that every new sanctions package also brings negative effects to the countries enforcing them, calling it a “double-edged sword.”

The new sanctions package includes a cap on the price of Russian crude oil at $47.60 per barrel, aiming to reduce Moscow’s revenues and weaken its military capabilities.

However, the Russian government and trade sources have downplayed the impact of these restrictions, expressing doubt that they will significantly disrupt Russia’s oil trade.

This development comes amid heightened tensions between the West and Russia due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and the multiple economic sanctions imposed on Moscow.
