Los Angeles, July 20 2025 — A Delta Air Lines flight headed to Atlanta was forced to make an emergency return to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Thursday after one of its engines caught fire shortly after takeoff.
The aircraft involved was a Boeing 767-400, which had just departed from LAX when flames were seen erupting from its left engine, prompting the flight crew to immediately abort the journey and request clearance to return.
Dramatic footage taken from the ground shows the moment the left engine ignited, creating panic and fear among the passengers on board.
“A Delta flight returned to Los Angeles shortly after takeoff due to an issue with the aircraft’s left engine,” a Delta spokesperson confirmed to the BBC, offering no further comment on the condition of the passengers or crew.
No injuries have been reported, and the plane landed safely back at LAX.
The incident is under investigation, and the airline is expected to conduct a full inspection of the aircraft.
