Republicans in the United States fear that the Israel-Gaza crisis could spark another terrorist attack reminiscent of 9/11 on American soil. The worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza risks undermining America’s position in the Middle East and radicalizing potential terrorists to target the U.S., a senior congressional aide told The Telegraph.
“Ending Hamas is beneficial to American national security—but at what cost? If we continue to witness this humanitarian crisis deteriorate, it will further damage America’s global standing,” the official said, as reported by A2 CNN. He warned that continued U.S. support for Israel comes with the risk that American citizens could become targets of revenge plots by Hamas and its allies. “Ultimately, we don’t want to see another 9/11.”
Republicans emphasized that while Israel is fighting a “brave, just, and righteous” war against Hamas, the methods used by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in Palestinian territories risk provoking “further escalation against the West.”
The warning comes amid mounting international pressure on Israel to ensure humanitarian aid reaches the people of Gaza, with aid organizations warning that thousands of children could die of hunger as the enclave stands on the brink of famine.
This week, Maga-aligned Republicans broke ranks with the Biden administration, calling on former President Trump to adopt a tougher stance with Israel.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a staunch Maga supporter and loyalist to Trump, became the first Republican lawmaker to accuse the Israeli state of committing “genocide.” Greene—who has previously accused critics of Israel in Congress of “sympathizing with terrorists”—compared the “genocide, humanitarian crisis, and starvation” in Gaza to the horrors of October 7.
Unwavering support for Israel has long been a cornerstone of Republican foreign policy, but as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza unfolds, patience with Netanyahu’s government is beginning to wear thin among lawmakers in Washington.
