Washington, D.C., August 6, 2025 — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić, where both sides discussed regional tensions and the future of bilateral relations.

According to an official statement released by the U.S. Department of State, Secretary Rubio emphasized the importance of de-escalating tensions in the Western Balkans, particularly with Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The meeting marked a step forward in reinforcing U.S.-Serbia ties amid ongoing regional challenges.

“Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić. They agreed that the United States and Serbia will launch a bilateral strategic dialogue later this year to deepen economic and security cooperation,” the statement reads.

The two officials also discussed strategies to advance regional stability and economic prosperity, highlighting the significance of dialogue and restraint in avoiding further conflict in the region.

“They also discussed the importance of lowering tensions in the Western Balkans, especially with Kosovo and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to promote regional stability and lay the groundwork for economic growth and shared prosperity,” the statement continued.

Rubio reiterated the United States’ commitment to a mutually beneficial relationship with Serbia that prioritizes the well-being of both nations’ citizens and serves their strategic interests.
