Five journalists working for the Al Jazeera television network were killed in an Israeli strike near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the network reported.

Correspondents Anas al-Sharif, Ismail Abu Omar, and colleagues Mahmoud Ziada, Hani Mahmoud, and Yousef Dawas lost their lives while reporting on the situation in the area. According to Al Jazeera, the journalists were clearly identifiable as members of the press at the time of the attack.

The network condemned the strike as a grave violation of international humanitarian law and called for accountability, stressing that targeting journalists undermines the public’s right to access information, especially in times of war.

The Israeli military has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
