The situation in Serbia remains tense. During the fifth consecutive night of anti-government protests, offices of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in Valjevo were set ablaze, while violent clashes between protesters and police were reported in Belgrade and Novi Sad.

According to the BBC, police used tear gas and smoke grenades after a group of masked individuals attacked the empty SNS offices. The Serbian Ministry of Interior has denied allegations of police brutality, although protesters claim systematic violence.

This wave of protests began after a tragic railway accident in Novi Sad, which killed 16 people. Since then, thousands of citizens have taken to the streets demanding early elections and an end to corruption.

Meanwhile, Russia has expressed support for President Aleksandar Vučić, declaring that it will not “remain without reaction” to the situation.
