U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to hold a tripartite meeting with the Presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, on August 22, according to a report by the American news portal Axios.

During a phone call, Trump showed interest in organizing a direct summit where both leaders, Putin and Zelensky, could meet to discuss the possibility of a peace agreement. Earlier reports indicated that Trump had proposed a peace deal in which Ukraine would hand over the remaining parts of the Donbas region to Russia, including territories still under Russian control. In return, Ukraine would receive a ceasefire along the current frontlines and security guarantees for both Ukraine and Europe.

Following his meeting with Putin at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Alaska, where talks lasted about three hours, Trump described the summit as “very productive.” Participants in the discussions with Putin included Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, while the U.S. side was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

After the meeting, Trump called Zelensky and European leaders to discuss possibilities for a sustainable resolution to the conflict. In his phone call, Trump expressed confidence that Ukraine and Russia should begin negotiations for a final peace agreement, setting aside the immediate push for a ceasefire.

Amid these developments, Trump and Zelensky are scheduled to meet in person at the White House on August 18, with hopes that discussions will lead to a deeper peace agreement.
