The Assembly of Kosovo will convene today in another attempt to finalize the constitutive session of the ninth legislature, marking the first gathering since the Constitutional Court’s recent ruling.
According to the official announcement, the session will begin at 11:00 AM, with the agenda focused on the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly.
This session had previously been suspended due to a temporary measure imposed by the Constitutional Court, which prevented Members of Parliament from making decisions.
Earlier this week, the Constitutional Court issued its final judgment, clarifying that the constitutive session must resume from Item 3 of the agenda approved on April 8, 2025. In line with Article 67(2) of the Constitution [Election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers], the representative of the largest parliamentary group must propose a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo.
The Speaker is to be elected through an open vote, with the same candidate allowed to be voted on up to three times.
This process must be completed within the 30-day constitutional deadline for the Assembly’s full constitution.
