Today marks 27 years since the heroic fall of Commander Ismet Jashari – Kumanova, one of the most emblematic figures of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
Born on April 16, 1967, in Orizare, Kumanovo, Jashari became distinguished as one of the most determined organizers and leaders of the liberation struggle. He was among the first to contribute to the establishment of the “Homeland Calls” fund and later joined the KLA in the Likoc operational zone, following the Epic of Prekaz.
On August 25, 1998, in an attempt to rescue the bodies of his fallen comrades, Ismet Jashari was killed heroically in the Battle of Bajrak in Luzhnica. In the same battle, Nuhi Mazreku and Habib Zogaj also fell.
Today, Commander Kumanova rests at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Kleçka, alongside 66 comrades-in-arms from the 121st Brigade “Ismet Jashari – Kumanova”, which proudly bears his name. His figure remains a lasting symbol of inspiration for generations of freedom in all of Kosovo.
