The Rapid Intervention Unit of the Kosovo Police prevented an attempted smuggling of illegal migrants at a checkpoint near the Kosovo–Serbia border crossing in Jarinje on August 24, 2025. During the inspection of a Mitrovica–Belgrade bus, authorities found 8 regular passengers on the lower deck, who were registered on the official list, while 18 unregistered foreign nationals without legal entry or transit rights were discovered on the upper deck.

Investigations revealed that the company owner, G. A., and the driver, B. D., were directly involved in organizing the illegal transport of migrants.

According to verifications, 5 of the migrants were Palestinian nationals who had entered Kosovo using Jordanian passports, 6 Bangladeshi nationals had work visas but were subject to deportation orders, and 7 Egyptian nationals had entered via Albania, intending to transit through Serbia toward the EU.

“Initial investigations and interviews with those responsible indicate a deliberate attempt to smuggle migrants. The company owner, G. A., and driver, B. D., attempted to evade responsibility, but evidence and verifications demonstrate direct involvement in organizing the illegal transport of migrants,” the police statement reads.
