At least 10 people were killed and 96 wounded in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Houthi movement in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, according to a revised casualty toll announced by the rebels late Monday.
The previous count stood at six dead and 86 injured.
The Houthis said the strikes targeted an oil company facility and a power plant in Sanaa, areas under their control. The group controls much of western Yemen, including the Red Sea coast, while the internationally recognized Yemeni government holds most of the remaining territory.
The Israeli military confirmed the operation, saying it struck Houthi military positions, including the presidential palace and a fuel depot, in response to what it described as ongoing attacks by the “Houthi terrorist regime” against Israel.
The Houthis, backed by Iran, have repeatedly launched rocket and drone attacks on Israeli territory, claiming to act in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Most of these attacks have been intercepted.
The Houthis are part of a wider anti-Israel alliance, alongside groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, with support from Iran.
