Serbian media outlets have recently launched a wave of disinformation, deliberately distorting statements made by Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, and presenting every action of the Republic of Kosovo as a direct threat to Serbia.

Through alarmist headlines such as “A general attack on Serbia is being prepared” and “Kurti warns of bloodshed”, these outlets seek to create fear and panic, reinforcing hostile narratives against Kosovo.

Sensationalism Without Facts

Phrases like “general attack” and “bloodshed” have no factual basis. They are emotionally charged terms aimed at manipulating public perception, fueling hatred and polarization. Missing from these reports is the broader context of Kosovo’s legitimate defensive and peacekeeping strategy, which has international support.

Kurti’s Statement in Context

During his speech, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, recently nominated by Vetëvendosje to form the next government, announced that over €1 billion will be allocated to Kosovo’s security forces in the next mandate. He also introduced plans to develop “Made in Kosova” military drones.

This investment was framed by Serbian media as offensive militarization, despite being a defensive modernization effort.

Media Manipulation in Practice

  • Kurir ran the headline: “A GENERAL ATTACK ON SERBIA IS BEING PREPARED!”, falsely implying Kosovo is preparing aggression.
  • Novosti used terms like “bloodshed”, further escalating fear without offering context.
  • Politika highlighted the €1 billion investment but ignored its defensive purpose, portraying Kosovo as a destabilizing force.
  • Alo exaggerated with alarmist phrases like “He is thirsty for bloodshed”, words not found in Kurti’s statement.
  • B92 and Informer pushed similar narratives, claiming Kosovo was “preparing for war”, without evidence.

The Real Picture

In reality, Kosovo’s military investments are defensive measures aimed at strengthening its Kosovo Security Force (KSF) and expanding cooperation with Albania, NATO, and the United States. These initiatives are not aggressive in nature but necessary for regional stability.

International leaders, including Kosovo’s partners, have consistently emphasized the importance of dialogue and peaceful solutions in relations with Serbia. Sensationalist Serbian headlines serve propaganda purposes, spreading fear and division rather than facts.
