The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora (MFA) reacted following the arrest of Kosovo citizen Hazir (Arif) Haziri by Serbian authorities, reports Gazeta Sinjali.
The official statement notes that Haziri was detained on September 8, 2025, at the Merdare border crossing while entering Serbian territory in a private vehicle.
According to the MFA, immediately after receiving the information, the Kosovo Liaison Office in Serbia engaged through diplomatic channels to obtain accurate and complete information regarding his detention.
“The Liaison Office of the Republic of Kosovo has submitted an official request to the authorities of the Government of Serbia to confirm the arrest of Mr. Haziri and to clarify the legal reasons for his detention,” the statement said.
The EU Delegation in Serbia, as well as diplomatic representatives of the Quint countries, have also been notified. If Haziri is placed in pre-trial detention and criminal proceedings are initiated, the Kosovo Liaison Office will request an official visit to the detention center.
The MFA urged citizens of Kosovo to avoid crossing into Serbia to ensure their safety and well-being.
“The MFA also emphasizes the urgent need for a response from the International Community regarding the repressive practices of the Serbian authorities, which violate fundamental principles of international law and international human rights conventions,” the statement added.
The reaction further stressed that the increase in arrests and harassment of Kosovo citizens by Serbian authorities constitutes a violation of the spirit of dialogue and agreements signed between the two sides.
