Ukraine is advancing efforts to expand its domestic defense industry amid ongoing Russian aggression.
Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that the German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall will build a new artillery shell production facility on a secure site in Ukraine. The move is part of Kyiv’s strategy to strengthen its military self-sufficiency.
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. envoy Keith Kellogg to discuss possibilities for joint weapons production and new sanctions against Russia. Zelensky confirmed on Telegram that discussions included:
- Bilateral agreements for the co-production of drones and weapons
- Strategic measures to enhance Ukraine’s security and ensure long-term peace
Kyiv expects a positive response from the U.S. as it seeks to bolster defense cooperation with Western partners.
