More than 88,000 ballots for the Local Elections for Mayors and Municipal Assemblies from Slovenia have arrived in Kosovo, enabling postal voting for the diaspora.

The postal voting process is scheduled to start on Wednesday, September 17, depending on when voters receive their ballot packages.

Valmir Elezi, spokesperson for the Central Election Commission (CEC), explained that special packages will be prepared for each registered voter, containing two ballots – one for mayoral elections and one for municipal assembly elections.

“We can confirm that ballots for diaspora voting have been printed and brought to Kosovo. The CEC will ensure that these packages are sent to registered voters abroad. It is then the responsibility of each voter to return their ballots to one of the CEC mailboxes opened in various countries,” Elezi said.

The postal voting period is 25 days long, covering approximately 43,933 registered Kosovar voters abroad. Voting will run from September 17 to October 11, 2025, exclusively via mail, as in-person voting at diplomatic missions does not apply for these local elections.

The CEC will soon publish the locations of mailboxes in different countries for voters to return their ballots.

Voters registered for postal voting are removed from the in-country voter lists to prevent double voting, while those not registered for diaspora voting will still appear on the lists within Kosovo.
