Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly rejected online conspiracy theories blaming Israel for the killing of American right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, suggesting that such accusations may be funded by individuals paid by Qatar.
“Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda minister, said that the bigger the lie, the faster it spreads,” Netanyahu said in a video statement posted on X. “Well, someone has fabricated a monstrous big lie claiming that Israel had anything to do with the horrific killing of Charlie Kirk.”
He emphasized that the conspiracies are baseless and that those spreading them may be financially supported by Qatar.
“This is madness. It’s false. It’s scandalous,” Netanyahu stated, praising Kirk for his enthusiastic pro-Israel activism and noting that they had spoken several times, including an invitation from the Prime Minister for Kirk to visit Israel.
According to Netanyahu, some conspiracy theorists alleged without evidence that the Jewish state was behind the killing due to Kirk’s mild criticisms of Israeli policies. In contrast, Netanyahu stressed that he welcomed Kirk’s differing views because “this is the essence of Charlie, the essence of a free country,” and that Kirk’s suggestions “always came from the heart, from his love for Israel and his love for the Jewish people.”
“Now, some are spreading these disgusting rumors—perhaps out of obsession, perhaps with funding from Qatar,” Netanyahu added, concluding that Kirk deserves “honor, not lies.”
