In a conversation on the PIKË podcast, Nenad Čanak, founder of the Social Democratic League of Vojvodina, stated that the current Serbian government is controlled by criminals who operate under the direct and non-institutional authority of President Aleksandar Vučić.

“The executive power, which he brought under his feet, has been taken over by criminals under the personal control of a handful of people, led by the current head of state,” Čanak said, citing figures such as Milan Radoičić and Zvonko Veselinović, whose criminal actions are already well-documented.

He also highlighted the role of individuals like Vojislav Šešelj, whom he called a “retired war criminal,” noting that although Šešelj served time at The Hague, he now enjoys full citizenship rights and political influence.

“If this man served his sentence, then why not employ all convicted pedophiles in kindergartens?” Čanak said ironically.

Using the example of current police recruitment, he illustrated the degradation of state institutions. According to Čanak, individuals with no professional training, recruited by the BIA secret service with political recommendations from the SNS (Serbian Progressive Party), are promoted to high-ranking positions in just a few months.

“These people were selling cars in showrooms yesterday,” he said, referring to one figure he called the “chief of thugs,” who now holds a senior officer rank and is accused of violent behavior and threats against detained students.

Čanak contrasted this reality with the regime of Slobodan Milošević, saying that although Milošević caused great harm and wars, he at least relied on state institutions.

“Vučić does not rely on institutions but on criminals who have seized them,” he concluded.
