Vučić Criticizes Osmani at UN, Calls Her a “Tourist”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić expressed frustration over the presence of Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani at open meetings during the UN General Assembly’s High-Level Week.
In comments to Serbian media, Vučić referred to Osmani as a “tourist” and “without influence.”
“She can pay for a helicopter for an hour or so and take a stroll… but she remains outside the inner door and will stay that way,” Vučić said.
Observers note that Vučić’s attempt to publicly discredit Osmani appears aimed at winning sympathy on the international stage. However, the world has already seen that his efforts are likely to be ineffective, as Osmani continues to participate in key diplomatic engagements and strengthen Kosovo’s international presence.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions between Kosovo and Serbia, especially amid recent discussions at the UN and continuing disagreements over dialogue facilitated by the European Union.
Vjosa Osmani has actively engaged with international leaders during the UN General Assembly, meeting with officials such as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, reinforcing Kosovo’s path toward Euro-Atlantic integration.
Meanwhile, Vučić has maintained his stance on Kosovo, asserting it as an “inseparable part of Serbia” and framing the situation as a matter of protecting Serbian rights and identity in the region.
Despite Vučić’s rhetoric, Osmani’s international diplomacy demonstrates Kosovo’s growing visibility and influence, while Serbia’s attempts to discredit her struggle to gain traction internationally.
