U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new round of tough tariffs on certain imported goods, aimed at protecting domestic production and encouraging companies to relocate their factories to U.S. soil.

The announcement was made through a post on his Truth Social network, where Trump stated that the new measures will take effect on October 1, 2025.

According to the plan, all branded and patented medicines imported into the United States will face a 100% tariff, except in cases where the importing company is building or has already begun building a manufacturing facility inside the U.S.

Trump said this measure is designed to force pharmaceutical companies to shift their production capacity to American territory, thereby reducing reliance on foreign markets and enhancing national security.

In addition to the pharmaceutical industry, new tariff measures will also apply to other sectors. Trump announced a 25% tariff on all imported heavy-duty trucks, arguing that this sector is vital to national infrastructure and the health of the U.S. economy.

He added that the measure would help American manufacturers such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, and Freightliner protect themselves from what he described as “unfair foreign competition.”

The new tariffs will also target the furniture and home goods sector. A 50% tariff will be imposed on kitchen cabinets and bathroom sinks, while furniture and upholstery will face a 30% tariff.

According to the president, these products are “flooding the American market” and harming domestic producers, making strong protective measures necessary for safeguarding national industry.
