Richard Grenell, former U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Special Missions, held a meeting yesterday with leaders from the Western Balkans.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani was also part of the meeting. Although photos released so far do not show her, reports indicate that President Osmani joined the meeting a few minutes late. She has not yet provided details about the discussions.
Other participants included:
- President of Albania, Bajram Begaj
- Serbian Foreign Minister, Marko Đurić
- North Macedonian Foreign Minister, Timço Mucunski
Also present was Albanian Chief Diplomat Elisa Spiropali, who shared her impressions on Facebook:
“An excellent meeting yesterday with President Trump’s Special Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell. Strengthening 🇦🇱–🇺🇸 relations remains a top priority for the Albanian government as we continue working to deepen economic cooperation. We reaffirmed Albania’s unwavering alliance with the United States as a key strategic objective.”
Earlier this year, Grenell had criticized President Osmani for allegedly misrepresenting statements by President Trump, stating on X in July:
“Donald Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on peace and economic normalization between Kosovo and Serbia in 2019 and 2020 through the signing of the Washington Agreement in the Oval Office. Osmani was not part of that agreement. Claims that something new occurred are absurd.”
President Osmani has not directly responded to Grenell’s comments. In a press conference in Pristina, she clarified that she did not add or interpret anything to President Trump’s statements:
“You can hear that statement yourself. I do not need to interpret it or add anything. One statement says peace was achieved within a few months; another says within a few weeks; yet another mentions the last three weeks.”
