Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty accused Israel of committing “genocide” in the Gaza Strip and pursuing a policy of “deliberate aggression” in the Middle East.
During his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Abdelatty described Israel’s policies as rooted in an “extremist ideology” that destabilizes the region and contradicts the UN’s objectives.
“The ongoing Israeli occupation, the genocide taking place today in the Gaza Strip, and the denial of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly the right to establish their independent state, make any narrative of peace and security in the region impossible,” Abdelatty declared.
He further emphasized: “Israel cannot be secure when others are not secure. The region cannot achieve stability without an independent State of Palestine.”
In a speech largely centered on Israel, Abdelatty condemned the recent Israeli strike against Hamas leaders in Qatar, and also accused Israel of violating the sovereignty of Syria and Lebanon, where the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have deployed troops near border areas.
Additionally, he accused Israel of pursuing a policy of “systematic starvation” in Gaza. Israel has strongly rejected the accusations of genocide and widespread hunger, stating that it takes measures to avoid civilian casualties and facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
