A protest will be held today in Prishtina, with the sole demand for the release of former Special Unit officer, Arbnor Spahiu, who remains in pre-trial detention in Serbia.
Spahiu was arrested in June 2025 by Serbian authorities at the Hungary–Serbia border crossing. He is accused by Belgrade of committing “aggravated murder” in the village of Banjska, Zvečan.
His wife, Arjeta Spahiu, stated that the family’s hopes for his release are fading:
“His condition is stable, but this situation is very difficult for him and for us as a family. I am the only one allowed to visit him, but unfortunately, despite contacts with Ambassador Jetishi and Faruk in Berlin, we have not seen any concrete action to give us real hope.”
Another family member, Donjeta Spahiu, criticized Kosovo’s institutions for their lack of response, stressing that the protest’s purpose is to ensure Spahiu’s rights are respected:
“It has been four months since Arbnor’s unjust arrest, yet very little has been done. Every passing day increases our anxiety and fear. Our protest seeks justice for Arbnor, a citizen being held unfairly. We want to raise awareness and call on the authorities to ensure his fundamental rights are respected.”
Spahiu has been held in Subotica, northern Serbia, since June 9, following a detention order issued by the High Court of Subotica.
