The Serbian List, which is participating in the October 12 local elections in Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo, has announced a political rally in North Mitrovica featuring a concert by Serbian singer Anđela Ignjatović, known as “Breskvica.”
The announcement has sparked attention due to the party’s alignment with Serbian and pro-Russian narratives, reinforcing its role as an extension of Belgrade’s influence in Kosovo.
Breskvica gained notoriety for her controversial song “Gnezdo Orlovo” (Eagle’s Nest), which was set to represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The song’s lyrics contain symbolic references to Kosovo, including metaphors that describe Albanians as “black birds” and Kosovo as the “eagle’s nest”—portrayed as a sacred land awaiting Serbia’s return.
According to interpretations, the song’s verses—such as “A gray cloud covers the sky, again the black birds” and “The bright creature will return”—are coded messages implying Serbia’s military “liberation” of Kosovo. The song’s selection was previously criticized as a political provocation and an attempt to romanticize wartime narratives.
The event’s official poster includes the Serbian List’s logo, and tickets are reportedly being distributed through the party’s local offices. The concert is scheduled for October 8 at 8:00 p.m. at Knez Caffe in North Mitrovica.
Deputy Police Director for the northern region, Veton Elshani, confirmed the planned event but declined to provide additional details.
