The U.S. Department of State has issued a warning about “credible reports” of a potential Hamas-planned attack targeting civilians in Gaza, calling it a serious violation of the existing ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Department stressed that any such action would undermine recent progress made in peace efforts and urged Hamas to fully comply with its obligations under the ceasefire terms.

Under the agreement, Israel released 250 Palestinian prisoners and 1,718 detainees from Gaza, according to reports by the Associated Press.

The United States has also alerted other ceasefire guarantors, including Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, emphasizing that it will take necessary measures to protect civilians in Gaza if the attack takes place.

So far, Hamas has not commented on the U.S. warning.
