Serbian lawyer Ivan Ninić has raised serious questions after Milan Vukašinović (39) was critically wounded by gunfire over the weekend in the village of Jelakce, near Leposaviq. Vukašinović is currently fighting for his life at the University Clinical Center in Niš, Serbia.

Ninić publicly addressed President Aleksandar Vučić, Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić, and the Director of the Security Intelligence Agency (VBA), Đura Jovanić, demanding clarity on the circumstances, the participants, and potential institutional failures surrounding the incident.

“The public must not be kept in the dark. Did this happen from behind? Were members of the Serbian Armed Forces in unmarked camouflage uniforms involved? Were others beyond the army part of this so-called ‘hunting operation’?” Ninić asked on social media platform X.

He also highlighted alarming medical details and concerns for Vukašinović’s future: whether his left kidney and cardiac tissue were removed, if the bullet remains lodged in his spinal column, the amount of blood lost during transport from Prokuplje to Niš, and whether the injuries could leave him permanently disabled.

Procedural questions were also raised: who conducted the investigation, when was it carried out, and what happened to Vukašinović’s vehicle, a Lada Niva.

Ninić warned that authorities appear to be silent, stating rhetorically:

“Did you think this would be covered up? Do you think no one will ever answer?”

According to reports, the Kosovo Police confirmed that Vukašinović was shot and abducted by Serbian Gendarmerie units, but no further details about the assailants or the exact circumstances have been released.

The lack of transparency and accountability raises urgent concerns about sovereignty, cross-border security, and the protection of civilians in northern Kosovo.
