President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani has issued a strong condemnation following the abduction of a Kosovo Serb citizen by members of the Serbian Gendarmerie near the Leposaviq/Leposavić border area, calling on the international democratic community to act decisively against Serbia’s continued aggression.
Osmani warned that these violent acts orchestrated by Serbia are intended to undermine peace and stability in the Western Balkans, adding that Kosovo’s political scene must stand united in defense of national sovereignty.
“Serbia, which daily spreads propaganda and disinformation about the rights of Serbs in Kosovo, has now shot and kidnapped a Kosovo Serb citizen. This proves once again its hegemonic and authoritarian nature. Any citizen who dares to speak the truth about Vučić’s regime is targeted and tortured in the most brutal way,” Osmani said.
She urged the democratic world to react immediately and stop these attacks, emphasizing that Serbia’s actions represent a direct threat to regional peace and security.
“The democratic world must act to stop Serbia’s assaults on Kosovo and its people. Meanwhile, the political actors in Kosovo must speak with one voice to defend the country from such threats,” she added.
Kosovo’s Government Demands International Sanctions
Acting Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla also condemned the incident, describing it as “a flagrant violation of Kosovo’s territorial integrity.”
“This aggressive and provocative behavior by Serbia is unacceptable. It represents a serious breach of state borders and a violation of the fundamental rights of our citizens. The international community must respond with clear and punitive measures so that these hostile acts are never repeated,” Sveçla stated.
According to the Kosovo Police, the incident occurred on November 1 in the Leposaviq/Leposavić area, known as “zero point”, a zone under KFOR’s responsibility.
Preliminary investigations suggest that masked individuals crossed illegally from Serbia, shot and abducted the victim, and later transported him to Niš, Serbia.
The case has raised serious concerns about Serbia’s ongoing violations of Kosovo’s sovereignty and the increasing militarization near the border.
Key Takeaway
The abduction of a Kosovo Serb citizen by Serbian forces underscores Belgrade’s escalating provocations and its disregard for international law. President Osmani’s message was clear: Serbia’s aggression must be stopped, and Kosovo’s institutions must respond in unity to defend peace and sovereignty.
