The Union of Radio Television of Kosovo Employees (SPERTK) has issued a public appeal to the President of Kosovo, urging immediate intervention to resolve the severe financial crisis facing the country’s public broadcaster, RTK.

The call follows the President’s statement earlier today, expressing readiness to propose in Parliament the allocation of RTK’s long-delayed budget.

In its statement, the union warned that RTK has been in financial collapse for several weeks, leaving employees without salaries and hundreds of families in economic distress.

“RTK has been in financial paralysis for weeks, while workers have not received their wages. This dire situation is severely affecting the lives of hundreds of families who depend on this public institution. Some employees are unable to afford basic needs, including food, rent, and medicine, and now feel abandoned by state institutions,” the statement reads.

According to SPERTK, the crisis has worsened as banks have begun pressuring employees to pay their loan installments despite their lack of income.

We urge you, within your constitutional and political authority, to act immediately to help unblock RTK’s budget and ensure the normal functioning of this independent public institution, which is vital for informing citizens and upholding democracy in Kosovo,” the union’s appeal concludes.
