The Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, remembered his brother Luan Haradinaj on his birthday.
Haradinaj wrote briefly, “Happy Birthday, Luan,” and shared an old photograph with him.
Luan Haradinaj was born on November 17, 1973, in Gllogjan of Reçan, Deçan municipality. He attended primary school in Irzniq and completed his high school education at “Vëllezërit Frashëri” High School in Deçan.
Luan Haradinaj fell during one of the first battles of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) against occupying Serbian forces on May 6, 1997, along the Albanian-Kosovar border. While leading a KLA expedition into Kosovo, he lost his life in a several-hour-long battle with Serbian forces.
On that day, Luan Haradinaj, together with his brother Ramush Haradinaj and a group including Fehmi and Xhevë Lladrovci, Selim Krasniqi, Ramiz Lladrovci, Abedin Rexha, Ilaz Kodra, Rafet Rama, Gani Rama, Emrush Xhemajli, and Ali Ahmeti, set out for Kosovo.
Luan Haradinaj’s body rested in Vlorë until the liberation of Kosovo. After the country was freed, his remains were reburied in the Martyrs’ Cemetery in his hometown of Gllogjan, where he rests in peace alongside 20 other hometown martyrs.
