The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, met on Monday with U.S. Congress members Michael Turner and Donald Norcross, with whom she discussed, among other topics, the latest developments in Kosovo.
During the meeting, President Osmani emphasized the need for Kosovo’s membership in NATO.
“President Osmani reiterated that Kosovo’s accession to NATO is a strategic imperative for the stability of the Western Balkans and for peace across the European continent. She highlighted that KSF soldiers already serve alongside U.S. troops in missions abroad, contributing to global peace and stability. At the same time, Kosovo has taken decisive steps to strengthen its defense and security sector, now allocating 2% of its GDP to defense, with the goal of doubling it within a few years.”
Regarding internal security and regional threats, Osmani underlined the professionalism of Kosovo’s security institutions as well as the importance of maintaining the American presence within KFOR.
“She stressed that the continued U.S. presence remains a crucial guarantee of peace and security for the citizens of Kosovo and the entire region, expressing the gratitude of the people of Kosovo for this contribution,” the Presidency stated.
During the meeting, Osmani also emphasized the fact that Serbia, even after more than two years, continues to refuse the extradition of those responsible for the September 24, 2023 terrorist attack in Banjska, in which police sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed.
“President Osmani reiterated that even after more than two years, Serbia continues to protect the terrorists who carried out the act of aggression in Banjska, since the perpetrators — including Milan Radoičić — have not been brought to justice. She emphasized that accountability for this act of aggression, as well as for the attack on KFOR soldiers and other incidents, is essential for regional stability and for preventing similar actions in the future,” the Presidency noted.
The U.S. Congress members also held a meeting with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
