The Government Commission for Missing Persons (KQPZh) has announced that human remains have been discovered and exhumed in the regions of Pejë and Prizren, which may date back to the last war in Kosovo.

The commission made the announcement on Facebook, stating that the excavations were carried out in cooperation with the Police Directorate for War Crimes and the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

“The Government Commission for Missing Persons, in cooperation with the Police Directorate for War Crimes (DHKL) and the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML), carried out planned evaluation excavations today at two locations in the field, initiated by the Missing Persons Sector of DHKL in cooperation with the families of missing persons and citizens. At these two locations—one in the Pejë region and one in the Prizren region—human remains were found and exhumed, which potentially may belong to victims of the last war in Kosovo and individuals who are still listed as missing,” the statement reads.

It was also emphasized that after confirmation and identification through DNA testing, family members will be officially notified by the Commission in collaboration with the responsible institutions.
