In a recent interview, David Cameron revealed how a message from his wife—sent after an interview with Nick Jones, founder of Soho House—prompted him to take a PSA test in 2022.
The test showed concerning signs, and a subsequent biopsy confirmed prostate cancer.
Cameron says that hearing the diagnosis was difficult, but he decided to act quickly, especially since his brother had passed away from pancreatic cancer at the same age.
He chose a minimally invasive treatment called focal therapy, which destroys cancerous cells without harming surrounding tissue. According to him, the treatment was successful, and follow-up scans showed very positive results.
Cameron is now joining the appeal of Prostate Cancer Research, calling for screening to be offered to high-risk men, as new technologies—such as MRI and genetic testing—make screening more accurate and less risky. He acknowledges ongoing debates about mass testing but believes the time has come for the NHS to reassess its approach.
He emphasizes that men often avoid conversations about their health, but hopes that by sharing his story, he will encourage others to stay informed and, if necessary, get checked.
