Kosovo’s caretaker Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, emphasized the historical significance of 28 November, describing it as a sacred moment for Albanians and a date deeply interwoven with the nation’s destiny. Through a post on his Facebook account, he extended his congratulations to all Albanians on the occasion of Flag Day.
Kurti stated that “there is no other nation in the world whose fate is so profoundly tied to a single date as that of Albanians with 28 November.” He referred to the year 1443 as a historical “accident” that continues to shape the Albanian national calendar.
He highlighted that this date gained special meaning from the moment Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu raised the Albanian flag over the Castle of Kruja, a symbolic act that later echoed in the Declaration of Independence of Albania on 28 November 1912. According to him, this flag has since become a powerful emblem of Albanian freedom and national unity.
Kurti also mentioned the contributions of Sami Frashëri and his vision for a united Albania, underscoring the enduring aspiration of Albanians to preserve their identity and territorial integrity.
In his message, he reflected on other key events tied to this date, including the birth of legendary commander Adem Jashari in 1955 and the public emergence of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) on 28 November 1998.
“This 28 November is more than a date—it is a symbol of the struggle for freedom and independence, culminating in the liberation of Kosovo and its declaration as a sovereign state,” Kurti stated.
He concluded by saying that Albanians today remain oriented toward the future, working toward what he called a “Third November”—a metaphor for continued progress, development, and Kosovo’s advancement toward European integration.
