The number of victims from this week’s deadly fire at a residential complex in Hong Kong has risen to 146, police reported on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

Officials from the Disaster Victim Identification Unit discovered additional bodies while expanding their search across three other blocks of the Wang Fuk Court complex. The fire has been described as the deadliest in any residential building worldwide since 1980.

“As of 16:00 local time, the latest death toll stands at 146. We cannot rule out the possibility of more victims,” said Tsang Shuk-yin, head of the identification unit, at a press conference.

Over 1,000 people from across the city gathered at the complex in the Tai Po district, northern Hong Kong, on Sunday to honor the victims. Authorities have established a joint investigation team to determine the cause of the fire.

The Hong Kong Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested 11 people in connection with the incident, three of whom were also detained by police for manslaughter.

The Indonesian Consulate reported that at least seven Indonesian nationals died in the fire, while a Filipino worker also lost her life, according to the Manila Consulate.

In response, the Hong Kong Buildings Department has ordered a temporary suspension of construction work at 30 private projects across the city.
