The European Commission has confirmed that around 50% of financial assistance for Kosovo, amounting to approximately €216 million, will be released.
According to the Commission, this decision was taken following the calm and orderly transfer of power in the four northern municipalities, after the most recent local elections held in December 2025.
“Following the calm and orderly transfer of local governance in the north after the recent local elections held in December 2025, we will further release around 50% of the financial assistance, amounting to approximately €216 million. This will enable: the signing of contracts for four projects (representing a total EU contribution of €34.6 million) and the launch of their implementation; as well as the completion of the programming of all remaining IPA III funds allocated to Kosovo (€181 million; the adoption of the financing decision by the Commission is planned for spring 2026, which would allow the first projects to start in the second half of 2026),” the European Commission stated.
The Commission recalled that when the European Union imposed punitive measures against Kosovo in the summer of 2023, following tensions in the predominantly Serb-inhabited north, these measures were described as temporary and the conditions for their removal were clearly defined.
