Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has expressed hope that the early parliamentary elections scheduled for December 28 will lead to a more constructive political approach among parties and help end months of political deadlock.
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg TV, Osmani praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his support of peace and stability in the Western Balkans and across Europe, emphasizing the importance of the United States’ continued engagement in the region.
Osmani described the presence of U.S. troops in Kosovo as the strongest deterrent against regional escalation, noting that American soldiers remain part of the NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping mission, deployed since the end of the 1999 war with Serbia.
The president acknowledged that Kosovo’s economic progress has been slowed by prolonged political instability, adding that she hopes the December 28 vote will resolve the impasse.
“The country is heading into its second early election this year after election winner Albin Kurti failed to form a governing majority, as other parties rejected his leadership style, which has strained relations with both European and American allies,” Osmani said.
Despite the challenges, Osmani expressed optimism about the period ahead.
“I am very, very hopeful,” she stated, stressing that functioning institutions are essential for Kosovo to move forward with major projects supported by the European Union and the United States.
She concluded by saying that Kosovo now needs political cooperation and stability in order to advance its democratic development and international partnerships.
