Serious suspicions have emerged following the death of Slavko Aleksić, a self-proclaimed “Chetnik voivode” and former paramilitary commander.

According to Croatian investigative journalist Domagoj Margetić, Aleksić had been in good health until about ten days ago and had recently made public statements supporting Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

Margetić claims Aleksić was one of the most important witnesses regarding Vučić’s alleged involvement in war crimes during the 1990s, including the so-called “Sarajevo Safari” in Sarajevo.

The journalist alleges that Aleksić’s death occurred suddenly just days after being admitted to the Military Hospital in Belgrade.

“Aleksandar Vučić, as usual, is eliminating witnesses. I just learned that his commander in Sarajevo died ‘magically’ in a hospital in Belgrade,” Margetić said, adding that witnesses of Vučić’s alleged crimes are disappearing.

Margetić claims that Aleksić was transferred to the Military Medical Academy (VMA) in Belgrade under the intervention of the Serbian intelligence service (BIA), where he reportedly died “suddenly and inexplicably.”

Aleksić, leader of the paramilitary unit “Chetnik Detachment of New Sarajevo,” died today in Trebinje at the age of 69, according to Bosnian media reports.
