The leader of Serbia’s Kreni-Promeni (Start–Change) movement, Savo Manojlović, stated on Saturday evening that students leading protests in Novi Pazar are working to unite the people, while the policies of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Social Democratic Party leader Rasim Ljajić are based on division.
Speaking after the student-led protest in Novi Pazar, Manojlović praised what he described as a “Serbia of solidarity and diversity.”
“This is a beautiful Serbia — a Serbia of solidarity and diversity, where people from Novi Pazar prepare food for those who came from other cities,” Manojlović said in a written statement.
“This is a Serbia that respects itself, and it represents the best burial of radical politics.”
He added that Serbia does not need Vučić or Ljajić, but rather a united population capable of bringing change and building a functional society.
Mass Protest in Novi Pazar
The protest, titled “Either Them or Us,” began at around 11:00 a.m. in front of the State University of Novi Pazar and lasted until approximately 6:00 p.m. The gathering brought together students and residents from multiple cities across Serbia.
According to the organizers, the protest was sparked by a decision that stripped more than 200 students of their student status, while around 30 university professors reportedly lost their jobs.
Demonstrators argue that the measures represent political pressure on higher education institutions and have called for accountability from university leadership and state authorities.
