Osmani Visits Malisheva After Severe Flooding Situation

This evening, President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, visited the Municipality of Malisheva, where she was received by Mayor Ekrem Kastrati.

The purpose of the visit was to receive a direct briefing on the situation caused by recent heavy rains and the challenges currently faced by the municipality.

Mayor Kastrati, after thanking the President for her visit, informed her about the current situation, the measures taken to manage it, and the potential risks the municipality has faced.

He emphasized that the Emergency Staff had been activated, that continuous coordination had been maintained with the Agency for Emergency Management (AME) and the Kosovo Security Force (FSK), and that the municipality had assisted citizens in need.

“We have been continuously monitoring the Mirusha Lake dam, due to the potential risk of any structural issues.” The mayor also updated the President on the damages incurred so far and requested support from central authorities for repair works, compensation for affected citizens, and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, including the dam and several bridges.

For her part, President Vjosa Osmani praised the Municipality of Malisheva and all emergency teams for their management of the situation, expressing full solidarity with the citizens and local institutions. She stressed that, despite the challenging circumstances, no lives were lost and that the protection of citizens’ lives remained the top priority.

“Together, we can always work on managing and preventing such situations, especially now that the problems have been identified, which facilitates taking measures at all levels,” President Osmani said, offering the full support of the Presidency in addressing the situation.

Following the meeting, President Osmani and Mayor Kastrati visited the Mirusha Lake dam to assess firsthand the current condition and potential risks it may pose.
