Renowned Albanian writer Ismail Kadare was born on 28 January 1936 in Gjirokastër and passed away on 1 July 2024.
Kadare is regarded as one of the most brilliant contemporary writers and was nominated several times for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Through his literary work—translated into a record number of languages, more than 45 worldwide—he introduced Albania to the international stage, showcasing its history and centuries-old culture.
