Two cases of the Nipah virus in India have prompted Thailand and Malaysia to strengthen airport controls in order to prevent the spread of the infection.

Nipah is a highly dangerous virus, with a fatality rate of up to 75%. It is mainly transmitted by bats and can cause acute encephalitis.

Currently, there are no approved vaccines, although several vaccine candidates are in testing phases.
