Skeletal Remains Found in Skënderaj, Suspected to Belong to Persons Missing During the War

The Kosovo Police have announced that the Unit for the Investigation of Persons Missing During the War, in cooperation with the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IFM), has conducted excavations in the village of Marinë, in Skënderaj, where skeletal remains were discovered.

According to the police, the remains are suspected to belong to individuals who went missing during the 1998–1999 war.

Skënderaj, Mitrovica region, 1998/1999. On 29 January 2026, at 10:00, the Unit for the Investigation of Persons Missing During the War, in cooperation with the IFM, carried out excavations in the village of Marinë, where skeletal remains believed to be human were encountered. The remains were taken by the IFM unit for further examination,” the police report states.
