On the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the deaths of three martyrs—Enver Morina, Shani Morina, and Sahit Shala—the Mayor of Drenas, Ramiz Lladrovci, paid tribute to them alongside their families and many citizens.
Lladrovci’s social media post:
“36 years ago, here near the railway, at the forefront of a demonstration, martyrs Enver Morina, Shani Morina, and Sahit Shala fell at the hands of the occupier.
It was a day Drenas had never seen before—a powerful demonstration where young and old in our municipality rose against Yugoslav violence and terror. The scale and organization of the peaceful demonstrators overwhelmed the Federal Special Unit, which, in retaliation, killed three and injured 27 demonstrators.
A few meters from the place where the three martyrs fell heroically, in September 1992 and May 1993, the site would witness unprecedented actions by Serbian forces—armed operations that would foreshadow the Kosovo Liberation Army.
The place where we today, together with the families of the martyrs and citizens, paid tribute and laid flower wreaths, will remain the site of the history of the first actions of the most successful army of the 20th century—the glorious KLA.
The memory of the national martyrs Enver Morina, Shani Morina, and Sahit Shala is unforgettable. Honor and glory!”
